Beehive panels

Creating paintings on beehives is an old Slovene tradition. Numerous self-thought painters, artists and even renowned artist have drawn various legends, religious motives, landscapes, famous people, etc. onto beehive panels. Twelve examples, some of which were painted by the renowned Slovene painter Matija Koželj, are kept in our museum. The oldest beehive panel in our collection dates to the mid 19th century.
