Workshops

The Slovene Museum of Christianity also organises creative workshops for different age groups. Prior arrangement is necessary by tel. no. (01) 78 77 863. The contact person is Suzana Kuplenk.

The following workshops are available:


Master Scribe Bernard in the Stična Abbey Scriptorium
Calligraphy workshop about the culture of writing from the eleventh to thirteenth century.

The participants learn about the Caroline/Gothic script that was used during the heyday of monastic scribes in the late twelfth century. Around 1180, twelve scribes worked at the Stična Abbey scriptorium and in a few years they created a total of over sixty manuscripts. Thirty-eight of these have survived until today. After the theoretical part of the workshop, the participants are given calligraphy writing utensils and inks and under the guidance of a teacher, they try to write as much text as possible in the Caroline/Gothic script.

Age group: suitable for primary school students from the fourth to the ninth year, for secondary school students and with some adaptation for adult participants

The Splendour of Medieval Initials
Workshop and lecture on medieval initials.

This workshop is intended for young visitors and is usually carried out together with the workshop Master Scribe Bernard at the Scriptorium of Stična Abbey. Participants learn about how medieval initials were created and then with the help of stencils try to perform the task of illuminating medieval manuscripts.

Age group: suitable for primary school students from the first to the sixth year
Entrance fee: 2 EUR
Duration: ca. 60 min or by prior arrangement

 

 

Who are Cistercians?
Lecture with worksheets.

Worksheets are available to primary school students on prior arrangement. During a guided tour the visitors fill out their worksheets, thereby learning about the Stična Abbey and monastic life in greater detail.

Age group: primary school, from the seventh to the ninth year
Entrance fee: EUR 1 surcharge to the price of the ticket
Duration: by prior arrangement

 

 

Find – Observe – Create
Creative workshop that takes children on a journey of art and restoration.

The goal of this workshop is to present conservation and restoration activities to children. In the museum environment and faced with the challenge of a manual task, the children learn about the beauty, preciousness and values of heritage in a relaxed and spontaneous way, while at the same time they explore the fundamentals of the restoration profession.  

Age group: suitable for primary school students from the fourth to the ninth year
Entrance fee: 2 EUR
Duration: ca. 60 min or by prior arrangement
