20.6.2025 - 16.11.2025

On Friday, 20 June 2025, at 6 p.m. the Slovene Museum of Christianity cordially invites you to the opening of the exhibition

Abbot of Stična
Jakob Reinprecht
as a Patron of Early Baroque Artworks

The following speakers will be present at the ceremony:

dr. Matej Klemenčič, initiator of the project Baroque in Slovenia
and
mag. Nataša Polajnar Frelih, author of the exhibition and Director of the Museum.

The exhibition will be opened by the Abbot of Stična p. Maximilijan File.

New discoveries over the last half century have made it necessary to refresh and deepen our knowledge of Baroque art in Slovenia. With the exhibition on Abbot Reinprecht, we are joining the project Baroque in Slovenia alongside other museums and galleries, and above all we are discovering an important church dignitary of the early 17th century who forged the way for Baroque art in Carniola. Jakob Reinprecht radically renovated the abbey in the spirit of the times, and in many ways its Baroque appearance is still visible today. Among other works, he built the Old Prelature, a former representative and administrative building, which today houses the Slovene Museum of Christianity.

The exhibition will be on display until 16 November 2025 and is accompanied by a rich Baroque-tinged educational and pedagogical programme. In the coming summer and autumn months, you are warmly invited to guided tours of the exhibition and to intergenerational workshops in calligraphy, textile printing and clay making.
